<div class="section1"><div class="Normal"><span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Devdas</span> made its presence felt at the Cannes film festival. As the foreign media hovered around the film''s stars and its director, one man felt a little left out. For as the limelight focused on Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Jackie Shroff was conspicuous by his absence. <br />Surely, Jaggu Dada is upset. But unlike his character in <span style="" font-style:="" italic="">Devdas</span>, Shroff hasn''t hit the bottle for being left out of Bhansali''s star-studded entourage to Cannes. "I was not invited," says Shroff without sounding too bitter. "It was not as if I was shattered or something, but I felt a little disappointed."<br />Shroff plays Chunnilal in the film, a role that was enacted by the flamboyant Motilal in Bimal Roy''s version of the Sarat Chandra classic. Chunnilal is the happy-go-lucky friend that Devdas finds when life seems to have hit rock-bottom for the hopeless lover. For Shroff, it''s an important role in his resume, so he is pleased that he did get noticed at Cannes. "The film was very well received," says Shroff, adding, "and my performance appreciated, especially my dance number with Shah Rukh." </div> </div>
