Swanand Kirkire steps into a new creative role

Composer, lyricist, singer and actor Swanand Kirkire has added another significant milestone to his multifaceted creative journey. The three-time National Award winner is set to make his debut as a show creator with Bandwaale, an upcoming original series.
Created by Swanand Kirkire in collaboration with Ankur Tewari, Bandwaale marks a new chapter in Kirkire’s storytelling career. The series not only sees him step behind the scenes as a creator and writer but also features him in the lead role, making it a deeply personal and ambitious project.
With Bandwaale, Kirkire expands his creative canvas beyond music and acting, embracing long-form narrative storytelling. The series brings together his long-standing relationship with music and character-driven stories, allowing him to explore a world that unfolds over time — both behind the camera and within it.
Speaking about his debut as a show creator, Swanand shared that the series has been years in the making. “For a very long time, stories have lived with me — some through music, some through characters, and some quietly in my head. Bandwaale is a result of those stories finally finding a form that allows them to breathe over time,” he said. Reflecting on the dual responsibility of creating the show while playing its central character, Kirkire described the experience as “both humbling and exhilarating.”
