Tata Sierra EV launch soon: What to expect from Maruti e-Vitara rival
Tata Motors is preparing to expand its electric vehicle lineup with the much-anticipated Sierra.ev, which is expected to go on sale in May 2026. The electric SUV will arrive a few months after the launch of its ICE counterpart, which has already crossed 20,000 units in sales within around four months. Here’s a quick look at what we can expect from the model.
The Sierra.ev will be positioned as a mid-size electric SUV, slotting below the Tata Harrier EV in the company’s portfolio and likely above the Curvv.ev. It is expected to rival models like the Maruti e Vitara and Mahindra BE 6 in the Indian market.
In terms of design, the Sierra.ev will closely mirror the ICE version, retaining its silhouette, large panoramic rear glass area and overall stance. However, Tata will introduce EV-specific elements to set it apart such as a different EV-like front fascia, different alloy wheels and more.
Inside, the cabin layout is likely to be shared with the petrol and diesel versions. Lower variants are expected to feature dual displays, while higher trims could get a triple-screen setup. The feature list is expected to be extensive, including a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, wireless charging, a 360-degree camera, powered tailgate and a 12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos. Wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and connected car tech are also likely to be part of the package.
Under the skin, the Sierra.ev is expected to be offered with two battery pack options, likely around 55 kWh and 65 kWh. There is also a possibility of a larger battery pack, potentially similar to the 75 kWh unit seen on the Harrier.ev, especially as rivals like the Mahindra BE 6 offer bigger battery capacities.
Performance-wise, Tata is expected to offer both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. Higher variants could feature a dual-motor setup, similar to the QWD system on the Harrier.ev, which would give the Sierra.ev an advantage over many competitors that currently lack AWD options.
Additionally, Tata may introduce a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model with the Sierra.ev. This would allow buyers to lower the upfront cost by opting for a battery subscription plan instead of purchasing it outright.
