Instead of turning a key, all you have to do is press a button to start or stop the engine, as long as the key fob is inside the car. It feels modern. It feels premium. It also, in a way, adds a layer of security. Since the car starts only when the key fob is nearby, traditional hot-wiring becomes difficult. Most cars also get an engine immobiliser along with this system.

Another small but useful benefit is reduced wear. Traditional keys rely on mechanical parts. Over time, those parts wear out. Push start systems use electronics instead. Fewer moving parts. Less physical stress. That helps in the long run.


But there are downsides too. One common issue is forgetting to switch the engine off. It happens more often than you think. There is no key to remove, so some drivers walk away assuming the car is off. In quiet cars, especially hybrids, this can go unnoticed.
