Holi 2026 vastu tips: 5 things to clear out before celebrating the festival

The festival of colors is almost here, and it is time to immerse the soul in happiness and the vibrance of colors and togetherness. This year Holi will be celebrated on March 4th following Holika Dahan on March 3, which heralds the renewal of spring through vibrant colors, good food and happiness. However, much like every other Hindu festival, there’s an unspoken mandate of cleaning the house and surroundings to attract good luck, property and the blessing of Goddess Lakshmi. As per Vastu shastra, it is believed that pre-festival cleansing can help purge stagnant energies and invite growth, harmony and prosperity, as the Purnima tithi of Holi helps amplify prana flow.


Clear Cluttered Northeast

Make sure to sweep and declutter the Ishaan kone of the house, which is the northeast corner. This is because this zone of the house represents Jupiter's wealth zone of removing broken items, dust, or storage by March 3 evening. Doing this unblocks knowledge and good luck in life.




Discard Dry Plants

Another important pre-festive ritual is to clean dry and dead plants, as removing wilted plants or thorny cacti from east/southeast zone before Rangwali Holi can attract good luck and remove negativity. It is advised to replace these dead plants with fresh marigolds or tulsi to harmonize the wood element and prevent negativity from piercing into family bonds.

Cleanse Main Entrance

Scrub doormats, thresholds, and brassware at the north/northeast entrance with salt water on Holika Dahan night; burnt herbs like neem ward off negativity accumulated over winter.

Empty Southwest Store Rooms

Lastly, sort and donate unused goods from southwest (Rahu corner) by March 2 one day before Holika Dahan and empty the spaces here to stabilize relationships. Doing this prevents mishaps, disputes or evil eye doshas.


Toilets & Drains

Make sure that the washrooms are cleaned before the festival. This is because cleansing the toilets and drains with hot water and camphor on the morning of March 3 by focusing on the south direction can neutralize water-fire clashes, ensuring digestive harmony amid festive sweets and feasts.
