NEW DELHI: Former law minister and Rajya Sabha MP Ashwani Kumar said demands for retirement of Congress chief
Sonia Gandhi were "utterly distasteful", arguing that the party needed "collective leadership at this critical juncture".
He said Sonia had provided "exemplary leadership" while admitting there could be differences in perspective between her and Rahul Gandhi.
He added that Sonia and Rahul were in complementary roles and the decision on leadership should be left to them.
"When we need to collectively rebuild the party, Sonia’s stewardship is important along with the energetic role of Rahul Gandhi, who in the natural course of things will eventually take over as party president," Kumar said.
