Top bike launches of 2016

The conventional motorcycle industry in India saw the launch of 5 new indigenously developed and built bikes in 2016 and one innovatively developed electric motorcycle. Here is a look at all the indigenously launched motorcycles of 2016.

Hero launched the Achiever 150, in the commuter segment, on 26 September, 2016 at a starting price of Rs 61,800. Available in drum brake and disc brake variants, the talking point of the motorcycle is its BS4 compliant 150cc engine. The engine is capable of 13.4PS at 8,000rpm and 12.8Nm of torque at 5,000rpm.

Launched at a premium promotional price of Rs 124,999, the Tork T6X is the country's first electric performance motorcycle. Powered by a high performance battery, which the company claims, can charge itself to 80 per cent in an hour, while promising a range of 100km after a full charge. Another high point about this bike is its instant torque delivery of 27Nm from the moment it starts.

Touted as the biggest launch of 2016, a premium cruiser motorcycle by Bajaj, was launched on 15 December, 2016. Available at a starting price of Rs 1.36 lakh, the Dominar 400 is powered by triple spark, 4-valve, fuel injected engine of 373.3cc displacement. The engine promises a power output of 35bhp at 8,000rpm and torque of 35Nm at 6,5000rpm taking the motorcycle to a top speed of 148kmph.

The first purpose-built adventure motorcycle from the brand, which houses a new engine and a new platform. Claiming a mileage of 33kmpl, the bike is powered by a 411cc mill which produces a power of 24.5bhp at 6,500rpm and a torque of 32Nm at 4,000rpm. Priced at 1.58 lakh, the bike was launched on 16 March, 2016.

Launched in March at a starting price of Rs 89,215, Apache brought out the machine with a mill of 197.75cc which churns out a power of 20.05PS at 8,500rpm and torque of 18.1Nm at 7,000rpm. An all new design and major technical changes are characteristic of this entry level sports bike.

Priced at Rs 62,133, this motorcycle is Bajaj's tribute to India's indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. It is a special bike which has parts made from metal sourced from the aircraft carrier. A 149.5cc engines powers the motorcycle to 11.8bhp at 7,500rpm with a torque of 13Nm at 5,500rpm. Bajaj claims that the V15 gives a mileage of 75kmpl.
