NEW DELHI: The Edmonton Oilers have faced challenges stringing together wins in the early part of the season, while the Dallas Stars have been on a surging streak.
Edmonton, with a disappointing 2-5-1 start, has struggled, being outscored 32-22, and only mustering five goals, including an 0-2-1 record on their home ice. Their recent 5-2 victory over Calgary in the Heritage Classic has given them some collective confidence, and they are eager to build on that success.
With Connor McDavid back from injury and strong contributions from Evander Kane, Zach Hyman, and Leon Draisaitl, the Oilers snapped an 0-3-1 streak.
"For the team to get two points was important for us," said Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft. "Something to build on."
Dallas, on the other hand, has had a strong start to the season with a 6-1-1 record. They've been solid on the road, earning seven of a possible eight points and are full of confidence. Jamie Benn and Roope Hintz were key players in their recent 4-3 victory over Calgary.
"We want to keep building," said Dallas' Matt Duchene. "Next game. We can't think about how good we were (the last game), we've got to get right back on it and try to replicate it."
Both teams have key players to watch. McDavid has a point streak of six games this season and has had a strong record against Dallas. Draisaitl is the team leader in points and has performed well against the Stars in the past.
While Dallas is enjoying their strong start, they might decide to play their backup, Scott Wedgewood, during this back-to-back scenario.
