A 72-year-old man was fatally shot by his neighbor in a gated community in Florida, US, on Thanksgiving Day following a dispute over loud music, according to the Broward County sheriff’s office.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 pm local time Thursday at the Somerset Drive apartments in Florida. Hurleyeon McLean, the victim, reportedly went downstairs to speak with his neighbor after the neighbor complained about the volume of McLean’s music. However, an altercation ensued, and the neighbor, who has not yet been identified by police, shot McLean, according to a New York Post report.

“He was playing his music, and the guy said it was too loud,” McLean’s wife, Rose, told NBC South Florida. “So my husband went down to him.”

Rose McLean told WSVN she heard a single gunshot. “I heard the gunshot, ‘boom,’ and I just ran to the door. I saw my husband lying face down in the blood.” She also said the suspect threatened her. “He wasn’t sorry. He was just standing there, looking at me with his gun in his hand,” she said. “I went up to him and asked, ‘Why did you shoot my husband? Why?’ And he said to me, ‘If I didn’t shut my mouth, he would shoot me too.’”

McLean worked as a private bus driver and was a father of two sons and a grandfather, according to the New York Post report. His pastor, Tracy McCloud, led a prayer circle with family and friends outside the apartment building while they awaited updates from law enforcement.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
