First snowfall of the season in Chicago

The National Weather Service states that the frigid air mass in place provided ideal conditions for a concentrated low pressure to move across the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes region. This atmospheric setup presented the possibility of isolated snow showers, particularly in preferred lake-effect areas, where weather forecasts anticipated minor to moderate snow accumulation. As the fast-moving weather system progressed eastward, precipitation chances extended into the Northeast. Anticipated conditions included light rain showers in lower elevations and coastal areas, while local mountain ranges were expected to see a mixture of rain and snow, although substantial accumulations were not foreseen.
