Cognizant, Infosys employed highest number of H-1Bs in Texas since 2020, claims report amid major crackdown
At a time when the Texas government has aggressively taken up the issue of H-1B visa holders allegedly stealing American jobs, a report by Dallas Express claimed that two Indian IT conglomerates, Cognizant and Infosys, are the top employers of H-1B visa holders in the state since 2020. The data is from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2025, the report claimed. Cognizant hired 50,666 H-1Bs in this period, while Infosys hired 45,323 in the same period, outpacing all other companies named in the list of top 25 employers.
The third on the list is Oracle America Inc (11,603), followed by Tesla (5,307), KPMG LLP (2,677) etc.
The list also includes Texas A&M University (1,087), UT Southwestern Medical Center (1,379), The University of Texas at Austin (893), and Dallas Independent School District (1,290).
The new list came days after Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced a one-year freeze on hiring H-1Bs in state agencies and universities. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced a probe into three Indian firms that hired H-1Bs in the past, seeking details of those employees and their services. H-1B visa program emerged as a contentious issue in Texas after journalist Sara Gonzales claimed visa abuse after she visited the official address of an H-1B company and found a residence with no office, no employees.
