CARLISE, (US): President George Bushon Monday said an essential part of rebuilding Iraq would be the creation of amodern prison system. Bush pledged — if the new Iraqigovernment agrees — to destroy Abu Ghraib, notorious as the site of abusesof Iraqi prisoners by US soldiers. Bush sought to reassure Americans, Iraqis andother nations that he has a plan to set Iraq on a track to stable self-rule.The US, Bush said, will use a ‘five-point plan’ to handover authority in Iraq to an interim government on June 30, help establishsecurity, continue rebuilding the country’s infrastructure, encourage moreinternational support and then move toward a national Iraqi election as early asnext January.He did not announce the names of a new prime ministeror other top Iraqi government officials, but promised they would be releasedlater this week by the UN special envoy to Iraq.
