'Epstein sent woman, Andrew sent confidential documents': What UK Police is probing in ex-British prince's arrest
The UK Police, that arrested former British prince Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor on suspicion of misconduct in public office, is probing alleged links with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Police did not publicly identify Mountbatten-Windsor, in line with standard practice under UK law. However, when questioned about whether he had been detained, the force referred to an earlier statement confirming the arrest of a man in his sixties.
Thames Valley Police is probing allegations that a second woman was allegedly brought to the United Kingdom by Jeffrey Epstein for a sexual encounter with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, BBC reported.
The alleged meeting is said to have taken place in 2010 at Royal Lodge in Windsor, Andrew’s former residence. The woman, who is not British, was in her twenties at the time.
The renewed scrutiny follows the publication of photographs and additional email exchanges between Andrew and Epstein.
In the wake of those disclosures, Andrew relocated from his Windsor home to the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk. The correspondence indicated the two men remained in contact even after Epstein had pleaded guilty in the United States to soliciting a minor.
Another allegation that is under scanner is that Andrew may have shared potentially sensitive documents with Epstein while serving as the United Kingdom’s trade envoy, AFP reported.
The police said that said it was “assessing” the claims that he sent trade-related reports to Epstein in 2010.
“Following a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office,’’ the statement said. “It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence.
