Pakistan security forces say they busted subversive network in Gilgit

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's security forces have claimed that they have busted a "subversive network" working to destabilise

Gilgit-Baltistan

with the arrest of 14 suspects.

According to sources, the operation was carried out on a tip-off and huge amount of arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of terrorists.

In the operation, 14 active members of the

Balawaristan National Front

were taken into custody.

According to intelligence sources, the BNF student wing Chairman Sher Nadir Shahi was involved in anti-Pakistan activities. Sources said that Abdul Hameed Khan, the group's kingpin, had surrendered unconditionally on February 8, 2019 after which Shah surrendered on March 29.

Khan had written letters to international authorities against six dams and their construction in the region, which is pivotal to the success of the multibillion-dollar

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor

(CPEC).

Intelligence sources here alleged Indian involvement in the case.

I would like to elaborate on a few important points.First of all, it is quite an irony that the media fraternity has sensentionalised the repatriation of BNF chairman AHK as an agent and terrorist while everybody is well aware that AHK is a political leader whose motherland is disputed between India and Pakistan in the United Nations. Moreover, his area is currently beyond the framework of Pakistani constitution, and he has right to travel and live freely. The second point of astonishment is the silence of the leaders of Gilgit Baltistan who are perhaps waiting until the crisis knocks on their doors. The third dilema is the indifference of the international community, including India. The Indian journalists are so blindfolded that they publish the same sensationalized and factless articles, copied from the Pakistani news papers. The next big source of doubt is the psycholgical state and good-wil of Pakistani administration who never banned his party while he was abroad and now when he shook hands with them they are declaring him as terrorist and banning his party, this is beyond common sense.Another important issue is whether AHK''s objection of the construction of dams in a geographically, politically, and environmentally sensitive region without the consent of the actual inhabitants of the land. One would wonder how does this amount into terrorism? Either the meaning of the term itself has changed Or it might have been deliberately used in reaction to the international community''s economic pressure on Pakistan to safeguard the nation of Gilgit Baltistan.Failing to reconcile with AHK now might bring more trouble for the govt''s economic and poltical interests in the future.Last but not the least, the policy of stigmatisation of the peaceful people of Gilgit Baltistan by declaring them agents and terrorists even if they have received donations from India amounts into weakening pakistan''s stand at the international level because the public is enough aware of the utilization of AHK''s fundings in welfare work in the region, mostly for improving education, which if he has really received from India makes India''s image as a noble one.The people of GB and the rest of the world very well know the supporters of terrorism in terms of funds, arms, shelter and ideology. The intelligence agencies should not run into a race for sticking an extra star on their uniforms, on the basis of false claims of arresting Abdul Hamid Khan, while the truth is that he returned on his own free will. The efforts of the pakistani state correcting their sympathy towards the People of GB could see profitable seeds in the future and will be appreciated. Otherwise there would remain no difference between them and their neighbours whom they always blame for using force gainst Kashmiris on the other side of LOC.
