"There will be talks between Lebanon and Israel Thursday and Friday next week in Washington," a State Department official said on condition of anonymity.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said that genuine negotiations cannot take place under coercion, stressing that diplomacy must be conducted in “good faith.”
In a post on X, Baqaei cited a 2011 International Court of Justice ruling, stating that negotiations require “a genuine attempt to engage in discussions with a view to resolving the dispute.”
He added that negotiations should not amount to “dictation, deception, extortion or coercion.”
Baqaei’s remarks came after US President Donald Trump said Washington’s “Operation Epic Fury” and the blockade linked to the Strait of Hormuz would end if Iran “plays ball.”
Trump also warned that if Tehran failed to accept the conditions for a ceasefire, military strikes would resume.
