Nine people were killed and many others injured after a middle school student opened fire at a school in Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey on Wednesday.
Governor Mukerrem Unluer earlier told reporters that a teacher was among those killed. He said the attacker was a student who used his father’s weapons, which he had hidden in a backpack, to carry out the shooting. The attacker also died, he added.
Parents rushed to the school after hearing reports of an armed attack, NTV television reported, adding that police took security measures around the school.
The incident comes a day after another shooting in the country, making it the second such case in two days. On Tuesday, a 19-year-old former student opened fire at a high school in Urfa, injuring 16 people.
In that case, the attacker killed himself as police tried to persuade him to surrender.
