Ceasefire begins

Hamas released three Israeli hostages, while Israel freed 90 Palestinians in the first prisoner exchange since the ceasefire deal. The truce marked a pause in a 15-month war that has devastated Gaza and heightened tensions in the Middle East. (PTI photo)

Return to bombed-out neighbourhoods

The ceasefire allowed many Palestinians to return to their destroyed homes in Gaza. Relief trucks carrying essential aid also entered the region, bringing much-needed supplies to the displaced population. (PTI photo)

Celebrations in Ramallah

In the West Bank city of Ramallah, fireworks lit up the sky as buses carrying freed Palestinian prisoners arrived. Thousands gathered to welcome the 90 prisoners, including 69 women and 21 teenagers, according to Hamas officials. (AP photo)

Emotional scenes in Tel Aviv

In Tel Aviv, hundreds of Israelis gathered outside the defence headquarters. They cheered and cried as a live broadcast from Gaza showed three female hostages entering a Red Cross vehicle surrounded by Hamas fighters. (PTI photo)

Hamas reemerge

Hamas used the truce to step out of hiding. Fighters patrolled parts of southern Gaza, and policemen in blue uniforms were seen in some areas. The truce provided Hamas an opportunity to re-establish its presence after 15 months of conflict. (AP photo)

Heavy losses on both sides

The conflict has left over 47,000 Palestinians dead, according to Gaza medical officials. Nearly all of Gaza’s 2.3 million residents are homeless. Meanwhile, around 400 Israeli soldiers have died during the fighting. (PTI photo)

Terms of the Truce

Under the agreement, fighting is to stop, aid is to flow into Gaza, and 33 of the remaining Israeli and foreign hostages will be released in the first phase. In return, Israel will release nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Many hostages are feared dead. (PTI photo)
