Kuwait’s army said on Thursday that its air defence systems intercepted hostile missile and drone threats amid escalating tensions linked to the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
The military did not specify where the attacks originated from, Reuters reported.
In a post on X, Kuwait Army said, “The General Staff of the Army notes that any explosion sounds heard are the result of air defense systems intercepting the hostile attacks.”
The statement further urged citizens to follow all security and safety instructions issued by the authorities.
Fresh strikes after Trump rejects Hormuz proposalThe latest escalation came hours after US President Donald Trump dismissed an Iranian state television report claiming Tehran had obtained an unofficial draft agreement aimed at restoring commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the Iranian report, shipping traffic could return to pre-war levels within a month, with Iran and Oman jointly overseeing movement through the strategic waterway.
“Nobody's going to control the strait,” Trump said during a cabinet meeting on Wednesday. “It's international waters and Oman will behave just like everybody else or we'll have to blow them up.”
What happened at Bandar Abbas?The US military carried out fresh strikes in Iran on Wednesday, shooting down four Iranian drones and hitting a control centre in the southern port city of Bandar Abbas, even as Washington and Tehran continue negotiations to end their three-month conflict.
As cited by AFP, a US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: "Today, US Central Command Forces shot down four Iranian one-way attack drones that posed a threat around the Strait of Hormuz. US forces also struck an Iranian ground control station in Bandar Abbas that was about to launch a fifth drone.
“These actions were measured, purely defensive and intended to maintain the ceasefire,” an unnamed US official told Reuters.
Iran says it targeted US airbaseIran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed on Thursday that they launched strikes on a US airbase at 4:50 am local time following what they described as an earlier US attack near Bandar Abbas airport, according to Iran’s Tasnim news agency.
