Ukraine's military has reported a significant and large-scale drone attack orchestrated by Russia overnight, characterizing it as the most extensive assault of its kind thus far. According to official statements, a total of 188 drones were launched, out of which the air defense systems were able to intercept 76. However, the air force indicated that it lost track of 96 drones, likely due to interference from electronic warfare tactics employed by the enemy. Notably, five of these drones were reportedly headed toward Belarus.

"During the overnight attack, the enemy deployed a record number of Shahed strike unmanned aerial vehicles, in addition to unidentified drones," the air force stated, specifically referring to the Iranian-designed drones and confirming that the total number launched reached 188.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko issued an urgent warning to residents early in the morning as waves of drones approached the capital city, prompting air raid sirens to sound across much of Ukraine. Citizens were strongly urged to seek shelter as the drone attack continued to unfold.

In addition to the drone assault, Moscow also launched four Iskander-M ballistic missiles, according to the air force's report.

"Regrettably, critical infrastructure facilities were impacted, and both private homes and apartment buildings sustained damage in several regions as a result of these massive drone attacks," the statement detailed.

This recent drone strike marks the latest in a series of ongoing assaults by Russia on Ukraine, underscoring the persistent challenges that Ukrainian air defenses face amid the escalating intensity of warfare.
