Debut delayed

Song Joong Ki got his first casting offer much earlier than his debut when he was on his way for his college entrance exam and had met an agent in the subway. However, he rejected the opportunity and later marked his debut in the third year of his university. He had a limited screen time in the 2008 erotic Korean film ‘A Frozen Flower’, co-starring Jo In Sung and Song Ji Hyo.

Where life led

Apart from good looks, Song Joong Ki was a straight-A student with a degree in Business Administration. He has been a National level speed skater since his school days but had to stop when he injured his ankle. Apart from this, the actor even juggled the responsibilities of being the student body president along with studies; he wanted to become a diplomat at some point. Eventually, he planned to get into a broadcasting company as a staff but ended up becoming an actor.

Marital status

Following the adulation that their sizzling chemistry fetched them in ‘Descendants Of The Sun’, Song Joong Ki surprised fans by marrying Song Hye Kyo. The popular Song-Song couple tied the knot on October 31, 2017, but only to break hearts later with the news of their divorce in 2018. The actor had moved out of their marital home after only 11 months of their wedding and later revealed the reason behind calling off their wedding was a difference in their personalities.

The right choices

Song Joong Ki’s breakthrough performance in ‘Sungkyunkwan Scandal’ brought him much fame and acclaim. While he was also appearing as a regular member of the popular variety show ‘Running Man’, he created a niche for himself with his first lead role in ‘A Werewolf Boy.’ After the massive success of the film, he became a global name with the Song Hye Kyo co-starrer ‘Descendants Of The Sun’

Apart from an impressive acting background, Song Joong Ki has also served mandatory military time in South Korea. Working as a soldier, he was sent to the DMZ, where he was a part of several reconnaissance missions and operations against North Korea. Talking about it, he had once said, “I was told I would never get another chance to rub shoulders with ordinary soldiers and live a normal life. I felt I would be able to learn a lot, not only as an actor but also as a young man”.
