'The Family Man 2', 'Scam 2003', 'Aarya 2': Highly-rated web series sequels gearing up for release

As theatres remain shut, streaming services and web series are ruling the roost. After treating fans to an endearing first season last year, makers are rolling out grand sequels this year and we have short listed top five Indian original web series sequels that should make it to your to-watch list. The trailer of Manoj Bajpayee starrer ‘The Family Man 2’ was recently released. It revolves around a completely fresh narrative. Manoj, as Srikant Tiwari, who played an intelligence officer in the first part, is seen engaged in a 9-to-5 desk job in the sequel. While he is still glued to his past, working for a special cell of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), he lands in Chennai where an attack is being planned. The sequel will mark the digital debut of Samantha Akkineni and will also feature Priyamani and Sharib Hashmi in pivotal roles.

Sushmita Sen’s acting career got a new lease of life with the web series ‘Aarya’ and the actress is busy working on its sequel. Her strong willed character in the series is willing to go to any length to protect her children. Speaking about her role, the actress had told IANS, “Aarya represents strength, determination and above all vulnerability in a world full of crime, a world run by men. For me, personally, it is the story of family, betrayal and a mother who is willing to go to any length to protect her children.” Earlier this year, the actress began shooting for ‘Aarya 2’ in Rajasthan.

Sobhita Dhulipala and Arjun Mathur floored the audience as Delhi-based wedding planners based in this hit series. They weaved a different marriage saga with each episode and left fans wanting for more. In 2019, Zoya Akhtar had announced she was working on ‘Made in Heaven 2’ and that the team had also started shooting for the much-awaited second season. The sequel will see Sobhita and Arjun planning destination weddings, in international settings.

Pratik Gandhi-starrer ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’ was one of the biggest hits in the Indian original web series space. Following it up with yet another promising narrative, filmmaker Hansal Mehta had announced ‘Scam 2003: The Curious Case of Abdul Karim Telgi’. Based on the stamp paper scam in India, this web series will be adapted from the Hindi book ‘Reporter ki Diary’. “This is a challenging tale to tell. And even more so because it is Season 2 of such a successful show. We will work doubly hard to reciprocate this love and to make this season very exciting, authentic and engaging,” Hansal Mehta had said earlier, while announcing the sequel.

Shefali Shah-starrer ‘Delhi Crime’ created history as it bagged the prestigious International Emmy award in the Best Drama Series category. The first season narrated the tragic story of the 2012 Delhi gang rape incident and the detailed police investigation that followed. For the sequel, Shefali will reprise her role of the tough cop Vartika Chaturvedi but for a different crime investigation.
