Will ‘The Boys: Mexico’ happen or not? Here’s what we know about the famed franchise
As the final season of ‘The Boys’ series rolled in only 2-3 days ago, fans were left wondering what the creators have in store next. The franchise, other than the main show, which was inspired by comic books created by Garth Ennis and artist Darick Robertson, also had a couple of spin-offs. There were also reports of ‘The Boys: Mexico’ being a solid project in development. However, it has been quite some time since there has been any update. Whether it is happening or not, here is what we know so far about ‘The Boys: Mexico.’

What is ‘The Boys: Mexico’

The spin-off project was announced in 2023 as a part of ‘The Boys’ universe. This is not the only spin-off being released, as ‘Vought Rising’, which will be counted as a prequel for the entire premise of the show, is also soon going to be released.Entertainment Weekly reported that as of right now, even though it has been almost three years since it was announced, it is still in the development phase, and there is no confirmed report of when it will be officially released in the coming years. What we know so far about the project is the fact that it is being spearheaded by Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, a famed writer who is best known for his work on DC's ‘Blue Beetle.’ The filming is said to take place across different areas in Mexico, with a predominantly Mexican cast.
Mexican stars Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal are also connected with the upcoming series. It was reported that the two were being considered to join the cast, but they later on changed their plans and will be involved in the behind the scene works of the upcoming show. Meanwhile, ‘Vougt Rising’ is set to be released sometime next year.Eric Kripke confirmed that the famed studios backing the entire franchise have officially seen the first draft of the script. He stated, “They just delivered a draft of the pilot to Amazon. Amazon seemed to really like it and seemed to be making all the right noises. They gave some notes, so we're gonna incorporate those notes. Gareth [Dunnet-Alcocer], who is the writer, is so smart and good.”
