'The Boys' Season 5 trailer: Homelander sets his sights on IMMORTALITY in a final battle with Butcher

'The Boys' has unveiled the new trailer for the upcoming Season 5 and this time, the stakes have never been higher.

The final season is setting up an epic showdown between Homelander and the vigilante Billy Butcher. Going by the clip, Butcher's mission to 'kill every Supe on the planet' using the virus, boils down to one final chance.

This season, fans can expect to see Homelander on a quest to seek 'immortality' once he gets his hands on V1 - the original version of Compound V. Butcher and the Boys, now divided, must band together in a race against time to prevent Homelander from gaining ultimate power for his 'assension'.

The footage also brings back Soldier Boy, initially thought to be dead, along with appearances by Jaz Sinclair and London Thor from the spin-off series 'Gen V', alongside Starlight, Frienchie, Mothers Milk and Hughie.

The trailer ends with a glimpse of Homelander seated in the Oval Office with a grin on his face.

The official synopsis reads, "In the fifth and final season, it’s Homelander’s world, completely subject to his erratic, egomaniacal whims. Hughie, Mother’s Milk, and Frenchie are imprisoned in a ‘Freedom Camp.’ Annie struggles to mount a resistance against the overwhelming Supe force. Kimiko is nowhere to be found. But when Butcher reappears, ready and willing to use a virus that will wipe all Supes off the map, he sets in motion a chain of events that will forever change the world and everyone in it. It’s the climax, people. Big stuff’s gonna happen."
