‘Stranger Things’ Caleb McLaughlin talks fan theories, says ‘I get that people want to live in this optimistic place’
The ‘Stranger Things’ finale brought out a lot of emotions in people from all across the world. While many were happy with the way the show ended, there were many others who craved for something more. This gave birth to the ‘conformity gate’ theory. In a recent interview, actor Caleb McLaughlin, who plays Lucas in the OTT series, weighed in on the matter and what he thought of the fan theories that went viral online soon after the gang had their showdown with Vecna and the Mind Flayer.
He further added, “I get that people want to live in this optimistic place of, 'Oh, we want more Stranger Things,' but the show is done, guys. I was like, 'Guys, it's over. It's been 10 years. We were full-on kids, and now we're full-on adults, and we don't need any more of us.’”
He further shared that a lot of people pointed out that the show was too optimistic. He detailed that if they had not gone for an optimistic ending to the show, it would not have been true to the actual theme of the show. “So if they left the show without that, we would have left Stranger Things without the true essence of what we've been representing forever.”
McLaughlin shared that the scene brought the series to a full circle. He shared that, “We started off season one playing Dungeons & Dragons, and we ended just like that, and Mike's storytelling and writing ability [that's rooted in D&D] is how the show should have ended.”
Caleb McLaughlin will next appear in the animated film ‘GOAT.’
