Lewis Hamilton confirms 'F1: The Movie' sequel script is underway in Melbourne: 'We’re going to take our time'
Lewis Hamilton has ignited excitement among Formula 1 fans with news that the sequel script for ‘F1: The Movie’ is actively in development. The seven-time world champion shared these updates during a press interaction at Albert Park in Melbourne ahead of the 2026 Australian Grand Prix on March 5, 2026.
Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed sequel plans in February 2026 building on the film’s authentic Grand Prix footage and gripping pit-lane drama. Lewis Hamilton, now with Ferrari, remains deeply involved as executive producer, collaborating closely with Bruckheimer and Kosinski.
Speaking to reporters at Albert Park, Lewis Hamilton detailed the project’s progress. “We are already working on the first script,” he said, as reported by Full Throttle HQ. He added, “We had our first meeting maybe mid-to-late the second part of the end of the year. Me, Jerry, Joe [Kosinski] talking about different ideas, different directions that we could go with the script.”
Hamilton expressed enthusiasm while stressing caution. “It’s really exciting. I’m super excited,” he noted in the Full Throttle HQ interview. “Now I’ve been through it, and it was already very intense the first time going. Now I’m used to it. So I know what to expect. I know what we could do better.” On fan impact, he shared, “It’s been amazing to see how big an impact it’s had, how many people have loved the movie. I’m still getting texts from people who are still only just watching the movie and how it’s opened their eyes up to what this sport is about.”
The feted racer prefers producing over acting. “I don’t really have a lot of desire to be on camera,” Hamilton explained to Daily Sabah. “I know a lot of actors whom I really admire. The craft is such a hard business to be in.” Screenwriter Ehren Kruger is refining the draft based on team input.
Apple TV Plus is yet to make an official announcement. As Lewis Hamilton eyes wins in his Ferrari era, this project cements his off-track influence in Hollywood.
Blockbuster fuels sequel momentum
‘F1: The Movie’ stormed theaters in June 2025, starring Brad Pitt as seasoned driver Sonny Hayes alongside Damson Idris as promising rookie Joshua Pearce. Javier Bardem portrayed team principal Ruben Cervantes in the Joseph Kosinski-directed hit, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and Lewis Hamilton. It shattered records as the highest-grossing sports movie ever, pulling in over $630 million globally with strong audience approval.Speaking to reporters at Albert Park, Lewis Hamilton detailed the project’s progress. “We are already working on the first script,” he said, as reported by Full Throttle HQ. He added, “We had our first meeting maybe mid-to-late the second part of the end of the year. Me, Jerry, Joe [Kosinski] talking about different ideas, different directions that we could go with the script.”
Prioritizing quality over haste
Hamilton addressed sequel pitfalls head-on. “The second one is important. Sequels often aren’t always great,” he cautioned in Melbourne, as covered by Daily Sabah and Philstar. “And we’ve got a great team, got a great cast, great writer. So I’m not concerned about that, but we’re going to take our time and make sure we get it just the way it needs to be.”The feted racer prefers producing over acting. “I don’t really have a lot of desire to be on camera,” Hamilton explained to Daily Sabah. “I know a lot of actors whom I really admire.
