Wawrinka meets Malisse in final
CHENNAI: Stanislas Wawrinka has made plenty of sacrifices for tennis. The latest and the biggest sacrifice of them all being his family, which was said to be a distraction in his career. The Swiss tennis star had tweeted last week that he had separated from his wife. He had no distractions whatsoever on Saturday as he powered past top seed and world No 6 Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic 6-4 , 6-1 in the Chennai Open semifinal in an hour and 16 minutes here on Saturday.
In the final, the third seed will meet Xavier Malisse who will have another shot at the title which he had won four years ago. The Belgian had beaten Rafael Nadal in the semifinals in 2007. On Saturday, Malisse came from behind to beat Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. "I have worked hard during my off season and last week and I am very happy to be in the final," said Malisse after the win. Berdych had started in ominous fashion in the tournament and was yet to lose a set. All that changed against Wawrinka who got an opportunity to break Berdych's serve in the fifth game. Berdych’s next serve was going away but the Swiss met it with perfectly angled backhand winner.
