Prime Minister Narendra Modi has responded warmly to U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks that he would “always be friends” with him, even amid recent strains in bilateral ties. Modi said he “deeply appreciates and fully reciprocates” Trump’s sentiments, emphasising that India and the United States share a “very special, positive, and forward-looking Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.” This comes just days after Trump expressed disappointment over India’s policies and controversially claimed on Truth Social that the U.S. had “lost India and Russia to the darkest China.” Despite these tensions, Modi’s message highlights the resilience of India–U.S. ties and his willingness to maintain personal rapport with Trump while keeping long-term strategic interests in focus.
