‘He Doesn’t Understand…’: Experts React After Trump’s Fresh Remark On India-US Relations, PM Modi

US President Donald Trump's recent comments on India and PM Modi have drawn sharp responses. Dr. Anand Ranganathan slammed Trump’s inconsistent stance, accusing him of targeting India unfairly over Russian oil imports while ignoring similar actions by China and the US itself. He praised PM Modi for standing firm and not yielding to pressure. Meanwhile, former Indian diplomat Veena Sikri said Trump's remarks reflect a poor understanding of India’s foreign policy, which is rooted in strategic autonomy. She emphasized that India’s relations with Russia or China are not at the cost of its US ties. Sikri welcomed Trump’s later praise for Modi, saying it shows a growing recognition of India’s balanced and independent global approach.
