BEST buses stayed off the roads in Mumbai, shops also stayed shut till 4pm on October 11 in response to the Maharashtra Bandh. The bandh was called by the ruling Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government, comprising Shiv Sena, NCP and Congress to protest the killing of four farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. Protest rallies were held in different parts of the city with Shiv Sainiks also stopping traffic on the Eastern Express highway for some time. NCP workers took out rallies and raised slogans against the Modi government. Market areas were closed and vegetable, fruits and other hawkers were off roads since morning and the pavements at markets deserted in most parts of the city.
