Expelled Trinamool Congress leader Humayun Kabir has targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, accusing her of “taking Muslim votes and building temples.” Kabir alleged that the TMC government has failed to address concerns of Muslim voters while focusing on religious infrastructure projects. He also attacked the state’s welfare schemes and promised increased financial support for women if elected. After his expulsion from the TMC, Kabir launched the Aam Janata Unnayan Party and has allied with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. The alliance aims to create independent political leadership among Muslims and to challenge both the TMC and the BJP in the state. With the party set to contest a large number of seats, the development adds a new dimension to the multi-cornered contest in West Bengal.
