Umesh Pal murder case: We were alert to avert possible escape attempt of accused, say police

Asad Ahmed, the son of mafia-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed, who was on the run in the Umesh Pal murder case, was killed in an encounter with the UP Police in Jhansi on April 13. Asad was on the run since the murder. Three people involved in the Umesh Pal murder case have been gunned down by UP Police as of now. Speaking about the same, Special DG Prashant Kumar said, “The government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy against the mafia. The result of this policy is before everyone today. We recovered several weapons from the deceased. We had information that to help the accused Atiq and Ashraf escape, there could be an attack on the police convoy while bringing them back to UP. In view of this information, teams of civil police and special forces were deployed.”
