Trump-Iran Move Catch Europe Off Guard in Hormuz Standoff; Humiliation For Macron, Starmer?
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron announced plans for a multinational naval mission in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday, even as the waterway was set to reopen and US President Donald Trump warned NATO allies to 'STAY AWAY'. Speaking after co-chairing a conference in Paris attended by 49 countries, Starmer said the mission would aim to safeguard global trade, but stressed it would only be deployed 'when conditions allow'. "We just had a very productive meeting, bringing together 49 countries around a very simple message and proposition that the world needs the Strait of Hormuz fully open, because that is how we keep prices down for our people and stop the global economic damage," he said.
