Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Safran’s advanced LEAP Engine MRO facility in Hyderabad, marking India’s entry into the global aircraft engine maintenance ecosystem. Calling aviation one of India’s fastest-growing sectors, PM Modi highlighted that the country now has the world’s third-largest domestic market, with airlines ordering over 1,500 new aircraft. Until now, 85% of India’s MRO needs were met overseas, leading to high costs and long grounding times. Safran’s Aircraft Engine Services India (SAESI) centre is the first global engine OEM-led MRO facility in India, servicing key engines for Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. The government says this is a breakthrough moment that will generate high-tech jobs and establish India as a major global MRO hub.
