Jaishankar Pushes UNSC Reform At G7, Flags Global Crises And India’s Strategic Leadership Role

India has stepped up its global pitch at a crucial moment. Speaking at the G7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar underlined the urgency of reforming the United Nations Security Council. His message comes as the world faces overlapping crises — from the West Asia conflict impacting oil flows to rising inflation and supply chain disruptions. India also raised concerns of developing nations, highlighting how energy shocks and food insecurity are hitting the Global South hardest. Alongside institutional reform, Jaishankar stressed the need to upgrade peacekeeping operations and ensure maritime security, especially in the Strait of Hormuz. The broader message is clear — global governance structures must adapt to current realities. India is not just calling for change, it is positioning itself at the centre of that change, balancing immediate energy concerns with long-term strategic influence.
