Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on April 2 said India’s trade agreement with the UK is expected to become operational within 30‑45 days, while the FTA with New Zealand may be signed in the fourth week of April. He added that the Oman FTA could take effect from May 1, 2026. The India-UK CETA was signed in July 2025, Oman’s deal in December 2025, and New Zealand’s FTA later that month, pending formal signature. Goyal also noted that India and Canada are targeting a joint trade commission by late May or early June to advance their FTA. He flagged talks to boost investments from the EFTA region and expand Brazil-Mercosur trade, highlighting India’s proactive approach in global trade.
