Haryana is in the eye of a political and administrative storm after IPS officer Y Puran Kumar’s tragic suicide. In a dramatic late-night move, DGP Shatrujeet Kapur was sent on forced leave following a week-long deadlock, protests, and mounting public pressure. The widow of the deceased, IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, refused to allow the autopsy or cremation until the DGP was removed, backed by Dalit groups and a ‘mahapanchayat’ demanding justice. IPS officer Narendra Bijarniya was also removed as Rohtak SP, yet the widow insisted action against the top police official was essential. The decision came after late-night meetings past midnight, as the Saini government postponed its first anniversary celebrations in Sonipat. Chandigarh Police have served a notice requesting the late officer’s laptop, which contains his suicide note drafts, for the ongoing investigation. Haryana remains tense as authorities balance public outrage, accountability, and political optics.
