Centre asks social media platforms to remove child sexual abuse content, warns of strict action

The Union government has asked social media sites to remove Child Sexual Abuse materials from their platforms. The ministry of electronics and IT has written to X (formerly Twitter), Youtube and Telegram in this regard. The platforms have been issued a stern warning that failure to remove child sexual abuse material would result in withdrawal of protection under Section 79 of IT Act, which will take away the platforms’ immunity from legal action.
