BSF doesn’t have powers to investigate, lodge FIR: North Bengal Frontier IG

IG of North Bengal Frontier, BSF Ravi Gandhi on November 18, said that BSF doesn’t have powers to investigate or lodging FIR as per the notice issued by Government of India on October 11. “As per the 3 notifications issued by Government of India on October 11, BSF is required to increase its area of the jurisdiction from 15km to 50km, under 3 acts - CRPC 1973, Passport (Entry into India) Act, 1920, and Passports Act, 1967,” said Ravi Gandhi, IG-BSF of North Bengal Frontier. “BSF doesn't have any investigation powers or FIR lodging powers; the police handle investigations and FIRs. We don't have any problems as we've been doing joint operations with police before and after this notification,” added IG Gandhi.
