BJP extends support to NPP to form government in Meghalaya

BJP which had cut off its ties with the National People's Party (NPP) in Meghalaya before the elections, has extended its support to the NPP as it fell short of the numbers to form the government. In a letter to Conrad Sangma, the BJP, which had won 2 seats, expressed support for them in forming the state's government. Sangma thanked the BJP for their support and stated that the party will continue to work with the BJP to serve the people of Meghalaya. The NPP has won 26 seats in the election. Regional outfit United Democratic Party emerged as the second-largest party with 11 seats this term, bettering its 2018 tally of 6 seats.
