US Navy ‘Defies’ Trump, Refuses Shipping Industry Requests For Hormuz Escorts Citing Iran Threat

The US Navy has refused shipping industry requests for military escorts through the Strait of Hormuz, telling industry counterparts the risk is too high, directly contradicting President Trump's repeated public assurances that the Navy would escort tankers through the strait if needed. The contradiction widened when Energy Secretary Chris Wright posted on X that a tanker had been successfully escorted through, then deleted the claim after it could not be verified. Iran's IRGC called it "a complete lie" and warned missiles and drones would stop any US fleet movement. The White House is holding the line. The Navy's operational assessment tells a different story.
