Saudi Arabia and its Yemeni allies have ousted the UAE-backed Southern Transitional Council leader, Aidarous al-Zubaidi, escalating tensions between Riyadh and Abu Dhabi. Al-Zubaidi reportedly fled Aden under cover of night, traveling via Somaliland to Abu Dhabi with UAE officers. Saudi-backed forces have reclaimed strategic southern provinces including Hadramout and Mahra, launched airstrikes on STC positions, and seized the presidential palace in Aden. Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council has accused al-Zubaidi of high treason and launched a formal investigation. Once allies in the fight against northern Houthi rebels, the UAE and Saudi Arabia are now locked in a widening Gulf power struggle.
