John F Kennedy (John Fitzgerald Kennedy or JFK) was born on May 29, 1917 in Brooklin, Massachusetts. JFK never lost an election and he first ran for Congress in 1946. Kennedy served three terms in the US House of Representatives (1947-53) as a bread-and-butter liberal. In 1952, he ran for US Senate against popular incumbent, Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr from Massachusetts. On September 12, 1953, Kennedy married Jacqueline Lee Bouvier (Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis). In January 1960 John F Kennedy formally announced his presidential candidacy. Kennedy won the general election, narrowly defeating the Republican candidate, Richard M Nixon. He became the 35th president of the United States (1961-63). He was the youngest man and the first Roman Catholic ever elected to the presidency of the United States. He donated his Congressional and Presidential salary to charity. He was assassinated while riding in a motorcade on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, Texas.
