A major geopolitical shift is unfolding as Western allies distance themselves from Donald Trump amid rising tensions with Iran. The United Kingdom and France are now planning a separate naval initiative in the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz — but with a key distinction: it will be strictly defensive and independent of ongoing military conflict. French President Emmanuel Macron has called for urgent diplomacy, pushing for a comprehensive peace framework that addresses Iran’s nuclear program, regional instability, and global energy security. Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has made it clear that Britain will not participate in enforcing the US-led blockade of Iran, though it will continue defensive operations in the region.
