India rejected a new text on the New Collective Quantified Goal (NCQG) during a recent UN and COP29 meeting, arguing it did not align with the priorities of the Global South. The text set a goal of at least $300 billion per year by 2035 for climate action in developing countries, with developed nations contributing. India sought to speak before the decision was finalized, but was not given the floor, leading to the gaveling of the NCQG text. This decision also included launching the “Baku to Belém Roadmap to 1.3T,” aiming to increase climate finance to $1.3 trillion.
