China has released video footage for the first time showing what it claims was a military confrontation with the Dutch frigate HNLMS De Ruyter in the disputed South China Sea. The footage shared by the People's Liberation Army's Southern Theatre Command, allegedly captures Chinese naval and air forces tracking and warning the Dutch warship near the Paracel Islands, a territory claimed by Beijing but disputed internationally. According to China, the frigate illegally entered its territorial waters and helicopters launched from the vessel repeatedly intruded into Chinese airspace. Beijing says it deployed forces to monitor and drive away the ship. The Netherlands has strongly disputed those claims, insisting that HNLMS De Ruyter was operating in accordance with international law.
