Amid the severe economic and political crisis, this week is very crucial for the Sri Lankan people. President Gotabaya Rajapaksha has new faces in the cabinet...even as spiralling protests against his government continue. The entire Sri Lankan cabinet, except the Prime Minister and President, resigned in the first week of April due to anti-government protests. The other big development is the meeting of Sri Lankan officials with the International Monetary Fund in Washington. The meeting on April 19 is crucial as it will decide the fate of Sri Lankans and how long the economic crisis takes to ease. But the question on how Sri Lanka plans to manage its debts remains. India's Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is in the US for IMF and World Bank meetings. Last week, Sri Lanka's High Commissioner in India Milinda Moragoda met Sitharaman. In the meeting, Sri Lanka requested India to help her get IMF aid and play guarantor.
