Although the saying goes as 'Age is just a number' but it doesn't really feel so according to former Bollywood actress Somy Ali. Speaking about how age is used as judgemental factor in the B town, Somy said that discrimination on the basis of age is a serious issue and should be looked into. She feels many tend to hide their age or don't reveal their actual age due to a fear of being stereotyped. Somy Ali said and I quote “Age is not just a number anymore because our society judges us by our age. I wish I knew what I know now about people and how judgmental they tend to be when I was a teenager. You can try every trick in the book to look younger, but age discrimination will never go away. That’s the reason why Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon set up her own production company – to give actresses over 40 a chance to pursue their craft.” Talking about the shallow acts of some women targeting the other women Somy says she finds it despicable. But Somy has her own mantra for this. According to her, the best way to deal with ageism is to 'ignore the ignorant'. She said, 'Ignorance with regard to ageism will always prevail. Remember the masses are more likely to troll, mock and judge. The intellectuals will always refrain from such pettiness. Respect a person’s age as that also means experience. Don’t mock those with far more experience than you'.
