Recently, a political crisis unfolded in Pakistan. On late Saturday night (April 9), Imran Khan was ousted as the Pak PM after he lost a no-confidence vote. Veteran actress Simi Garewal has now reacted to it and tweeted about the teachings one can take from Imran Khan's exit as a Prime Minister. While stating that she has known the cricketer-turned-politician for 40 years, she tweeted, '#ImranKhanPrimeMinister exit teaches: 1. A joint opposition can dismiss a popular Prime Minister. 2 Politics is no place for idealists.' While stating that Imran Khan is not a 'corrupt' man, she added, 'I've known Imran for 40 yrs & idealism is at his core. He may have other failings - but corruption is not one of them.' This isn’t the first time Simi has tweeted about Imran Khan. Earlier, when he got elected as the Prime Minister of Pakistan, she had posted a congratulatory tweet for him which read, 'Congratulations @ImranKhanPTI. You worked tirelessly for this day. And the new harder journey has just begun. Wishing you every success...make those dreams you harboured a reality. You can do it. And be safe.' Before penning this note, she also posted a controversial tweet about Imran's political leadership and death. In a now-deleted tweet, she wrote, '#ImranKhan I am deeply ambivalent about the victory. It's a poisoned chalice! Many years ago @ImranKhanPTI told me that a pir had predicted he will become PM of Pakistan one day - and will be assassinated. Seems Imran wanted it...despite the cost...It's sad.' Notably, Imran Khan had also featured in a popular chat show hosted by Simi. During his appearance on the show, he opened up about his political party and aspirations. In his interview with Simi Garewal, Imran Khan, who launched his political party PTI in 1996, said, 'The party was formed as a movement for justice and basically to have a just society where justice is based on an independent and credible judicial system.' Notably, within four months of PTI’s formation, Imran decided to contest in elections. For more news and updates, stay tuned to ETIMES.
