Actor and noted screenwriter Shiv Subramaniam passed away on Sunday night. He was known for acting in recent films like ‘2 States’ and ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’, and also for writing the screenplay of acclaimed films like ‘Parinda’ and ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’. There is no official word yet on the cause of his death. However, the news is being widely circulated on social media by news portals and even Bollywood celebs like Ashoke Pandit and Hansal Mehta. Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit took to Twitter to mourn the loss of “a great actor". He wrote, “Extremely shocked and pained to know about the tragic demise of our dear friend, a great actor and a brilliant human being Shiv Subramaniam. My heartfelt condolences to his wife Divya. May God give you enough energy to face this tragedy." Director Hansal Mehta also penned an emotional tribute to Subramaniam on social media which read, “Terrible news to wake up to. Shiv Subramaniam gone. Heartbreaking.” Shiv Subramaniam was last seen in Karan Johar’s production ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ starring Abhimanyu Dassani and Sanya Malhotra. He played the role of Sanya’s father in the film which was a story based on the concept of arranged marriages and long-distance relationships. He is also known for his performance in Nana Patekar’s ‘Prahaar’. Subramaniam began his film journey with the 1989 film ‘Parinda’, for which he wrote the screenplay and also acted in a supporting role. He was also credited for writing the screenplay for films like ‘1942: A Love Story’, ‘Is Raat Ki Subah Nahin’, ‘Arjun Pandit’, ‘Chameli’, ‘Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi’ and ‘Teen Patti’. As an actor, he was known for his brilliant performances in films and TV shows. The late actor garnered critical acclaim for his performances in ‘Stanley Ka Dabba’, ‘2 States’, ‘Hichki’, ‘Ungli’ and ‘Nail Polish’.
