The Pune Police began crackdown on helmetless riders on January 1. In November 2018, the Pune police commissioner had announced that it will strictly implement the rule for mandatory use of helmets. While talking to editors of newspapers, the police commissioner had said, “We cannot continue with a situation where people are losing their lives almost every other day for not wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers.”
